Repairing Disk Permissions

Installation of new applications (specifically from .pkg files) can sometimes corrupt or mismanage file permissions on the OS X system. This can lead to minor errors during normal operations. To fix this, users should repair disk permissions frequently.

Repairing Permissions

  1. Go to the Utilities folder and open Disk Utility. Select your hard drive in the left pane.
  2. Select the First Aid tab at the top, then click "Repair Disk Permissions" below.
